چکیده

A 31-year-old man presented to our clinic for an ocular trauma to his left eye. His best-corrected visual acuity was 20/200 OS (left eye). Anterior segment examination showed an epithelial defect, which implies a direct injury to the cornea. A marked focal stromal edema accompanied by Descemet's membrane folds were located at 10 o'clock in the paraxial area, about 4 mm apart from the corneal center. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) revealed marked corneal swelling of the lesion. Five days later, the patient's best-corrected visual acuity improved to 20/50 OS. The stromal edema resolved showing no signs of epithelial defect, although small opacity remained. AS-OCT revealed complete resolution of corneal swelling. Despite the resolution of corneal edema, however, specular microscopy showed substantially decreased endothelial cell density in the lesion compared to the fellow eye. Here we report a case of traumatic corneal stromal edema discovered by AS-OCT.

Endothelial barrier function and Na+/K(+)-ATPase pump density in herpetic stromal disease.

PURPOSE Corneal edema is a significant component of the various forms of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1)-induced stromal disease. Maintenance of corneal thickness, a reflection of corneal hydration, depends on a physical barrier formed by endothelial cell-cell junctions and by the activity of Na+/K(+)-ATPase pumps that regulate ion flux and thus influence water movement through this cell la...

A case of noninflammatory corneal edema following anterior-posterior radial keratotomy (Sato's operation) successfully treated by topical corticosteroid.

BACKGROUND Corticosteroids seem to affect the functions of corneal endothelial cells directly in addition to their anti-inflammatory effect. CASE A 69-year-old man presented with blurred vision in his left eye and decreased visual acuity in both eyes. He had received anterior-posterior radial keratotomy for myopia in both eyes 40 years earlier. OBSERVATIONS Both eyes showed mild corneal str...

Histological and confocal microscopy changes in chronic corneal edema: implications for endothelial transplantation.

PURPOSE To report in vivo confocal microscopic (IVCM) features in corneal edema supported by histopathologic correlation. METHODS This was an observational study with evaluation of diagnostic technology. Twenty patients with clinically diagnosed corneal edema were involved, including 11 with Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy (FED). All cases, in addition to a control group of six normal eyes, were...

Successful treatment of corneal wasp sting-induced panuveitis with vitrectomy

BACKGROUND This study aims to present the management and clinical findings of a case of corneal wasp sting and to report the outcome of corneal change and panuveitis after vitrectomy. FINDINGS Clinical findings, anterior segment photographs, corneal endothelial changes, and medical treatment of corneal wasp sting-induced panuveitis are presented. A 95-year-man was stung by a wasp on his left ...

مقایسه‌ی سلول‌های اندوتلیوم قرنیه در افراد مبتلا به قوز قرنیه و سالم

Background: In this study were focused on corneal cells changes in keratoconus disease, as there are differences between results of other studies that were done on keratokonic eyes. And the chief purpose was a comparison between keratoconus and normal population based corneal endothelium (in cell density, pleomorphism and polymegethism of cells). Methods: This study is an observational study a...
